White Sangria

Nothing makes you feel more like a fantastic party host than when you have a specialty drink prepared for your guests. Anyone can throw sodas in a cooler, but when I think about adding something unique to a get-together, generally it’s a special drink that’s readily available and widely enjoyed.

This little trick to hosting a great party comes in especially handy when it’s too hot to eat and your guests are craving something refreshing and summery.  So why not try a little White Sangria to liven up whatever it is you’re celebrating this weekend:  Father’s day, Flag Day, FRIDAY? It’s versatile, easy, and gives you an outlet to use up all that fresh fruit you bought because you couldn’t pass up a good deal. Not to mention, your friends will envy your effortlessly chic hosting skills when you incorporate this twist on a great European tradition into your affair. Win-win!

White Sangria

Ingredients

1 cup unsweetened pineapple juice
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 medium oranges, washed and sliced
1 medium lemon, washed and sliced
1 bottle (750 ml) Riesling or other sweet white wine
1 medium tart apple, thinly sliced
1/4 cup Triple Sec
1 cups lemon-lime soda, chilled
Ice cubes

Directions

In a large pitcher, combine the pineapple juice, lemon juice and orange and lemon slices; mash gently with a wooden spoon until fruit is partially crushed.

Add the wine, apple slices and triple sec. Refrigerate for 2-4 hours.

Just before serving add soda. Serve over ice.
