It’s the biggest awards night of the year, full of Hollywood glamour, little gold men, and tributes to the very best of the Silver Screen. Oscar night is fast approaching, and an Oscar party is the perfect way to invite your fellow film-buffs over to eat, drink, and celebrate this red carpet affair.
Set the Mood: Gather some black-and-white movie stills and print them in varying sizes. Lay them out on the table as a collage, attaching them with removable adhesive glue dots. Place a large piece of plexiglass over the top to protect the images and turn the table into a buffet.
Swag Bags: Be sure your guests get the Hollywood treatment with swag bags full of theater-style snacks like SnowCaps, Junior Mints, Raisinets, Twizzlers, a CD of movie-themed music, inexpensive celebrity-style sunglasses, a classic DVD pile, comfy socks or flip-flops, a shiny lip gloss, hand loation or hair spray.
Movie Munchies: Transform plain popcorn with melted butter and different flavors like lime juice and Cajun seasoning for a little kick, or add dried parsley, garlic salt, chili powder, and some hot pepper sauce, then sprinkle with some grated Parmesan cheese to satisfy that nacho craving.
Fun and Games: Make it an affair to remember by asking your guests to dress up in their Tinsel Town best. Decorate the entrance to your home with a red carpet and the rest of your home in gold balloons and crepe paper. Set out disposable cameras for your guests to capture the best moments of the night. Print out ballots from oscars.org for your friends to choose their winners at the start of the night. The person with the most right takes home their own Oscar!
Food: No party is complete without food! If you’re short on time, choose one or two recipes to make and round out the menu with chips and salsa, store-bought fruit or cheese trays, and other easy nibbles.
Most caterers suggest 12 pieces per person if you’re serving appetizers as the main meal. For 8-10 people, opt for three different types of bites. For up to 16 guests, aim for four or five different appetizers.
