Hey guys – this is Rachel, blogger over at Fresh Home Blog, a sister site to Love and Homemade Recipes. Sarah asked me to pen a guest blog about Halloween entertaining, and I was excited to share some of Fresh Home’s great ideas over on one of our favorite food blogs!
The first thing you’ll need – clearly – are some great Halloween party recipes, like these:
Aside from the food, the key to a great party, I think, is a theme. Even if it’s a Halloween party – where everyone’s guaranteed to show up in a costume anyway – having a good theme will make your party just a bit more memorable. So, here are 3 of my favorite Halloween party ideas. (Note: creepy cocktails are assumed, naturally):
Pumpkin-Carving Party:
I love having people over to carve pumpkins. With or without kids, it’s more fun to carve when other people are around. (Especially if you’re like me, and you need someone else to scoop out the insides. C’mon: It’s gross!) This party is easy: Invite over your friends, tell them to bring a pumpkin, and you’ll supply the carving tools and inspiration. Start with these 12 pumpkin carving templates:

For something a little different, set out an assortment of cookie cutters (yeah, really cookie cutters!), a rubber mallet and some needle-nose pliers so everyone can carve their pumpkin an entirely new way:
You could even encourage folks to carve your pumpkins with a drill:
If you don’t have outdoor space, don’t forget the tarps for easy clean-up.
Haunted House Party
This is a pretty straightforward party idea, but the devil’s in the details (pun totally intended). Have all your friends dress up as their favorite monster, mummy, Frankenstein or the like. You get to make your house look as haunted as possible. Hang cobwebs and easy Halloween ghosts with abandon:

Decorate tabletops with spooky finds, like creepy candle trims:

And make a centerpiece from dark and haunted candlesticks:

And don’t forget the party favors! Give you guests a Halloween goodie bag filled with your favorite treats on their way out:
Creepcake-Decorating Party: All the prep you need to do for this fun party is to bake a bunch of cupcakes. Easy, right? Let your guests do the rest of the work. Bake a variety of chocolate and vanilla cupcakes, then set out frosting, food coloring, candies and other goodies your guests can use to make lil’ “creepcake” monsters. We love these ghoulishly good cupcakes ideas for inspiration:
