State Fair: Thoughts on Fried Beer

Fried Beer

Deep fried beer made it’s debut this year at the Wisconsin State Fair – exciting fair-goers and unique food aficionados.  While there was a lot of buzz around this culinary concoction, however the treat itself did not meet expectations.

It all starts with a few cubes of frozen beer, which is dredged in a thick batter and flash-fried.  Served with a puddle of zesty cheese sauce for dipping, the beer pops in your mouth – and not in an appetizing way either. The beer is pipping hot from being fried, and doesn’t blend well with the batter or the cheese. It’s an unappetizing treat that should be skipped at all costs.

It seems as though in a world of fried this and fried that, we’ve begun to reach at straws in the hopes of frying the next-big-thing. Beer, Kool-aid, and butter shouldn’t be deep-fried. Let’s leave that to the potatoes, Snicker bars, and Oreos.

Have you tried fried beer? What did you think? What’s the weirdest State Fair food you’ve ever tried?

HI Betty – We don’t have recipes for these, as the vendors were not very keen on giving out their culinary secrets.

Prior to going, my husband thought the fried beer to be a state fair “must have”. I tried one and it and there is only one word to describe it…YUCKY! (and my husband agrees)
