I’ve rediscovered my love for a really good bagel. Those soft, chewy rings smothered in a tangy cream cheese have become a staple for breakfast every morning. But as much as I love scraping cream cheese over the toasted bagel and biting into the crunchy dough, what I’m not a fan of is the price. Store bought bagels are just a little too expensive – not to mention throwing in the cost of a decent flavored cream cheese. Which is why I’ve turned to making my own homemade bagels.
The process is really quite simple – and the results are positively delicious. Just follow these easy steps and I guarantee you’ll be rediscovering the bagel just like me.
Make the dough: Use your favorite bagel dough recipe. Prepare the dough according to recipe instructions.

Shaping the Dough
1. Shape dough into balls. Push your thumb through the center of the dough, forming a 1-in. hole.
2. Stretch and shape dough to form an even ring.

Boiling the Dough
After bagels have boiled, remove them from water with a slotted spoon. Drain well on paper towels.
Bake: Once your bagels have boiled, bake according to your recipe.
When ready to serve, be sure to have plenty of cream cheese on hand!
