
I think it’s safe to say that it’s hot outside. Blistering, suffocating, sweat-through-your-shirt-the-minute-you-step-outside-hot. So, what better way to beat the heat than to go back in time and enjoy a classic chocolate soda.
Gone are the days of local soda shops where patrons would perch on padded stools, elbows bent on the polished counter tops, sipping on frosty mugs of root beer and creamy ice cream sodas. Instead we cool off at the local convenience store, filling up plastic cups full of neon-colored ice. While those jumbo-sized beverages are incredibly convenient, taking time to create an old-fashioned ice cream soda is a simpler and tastier way to cool off this summer.
What’s your favorite soda shop treat?
Chocolate Soda
3 tablespoons chocolate syrup
1 tablespoon half-and-half
3/4 cup carbonated water
1/4 cup vanilla ice cream
Directions
In a tall glass, combine chocolate syrup and cream. Stir in water; top with ice cream. Serve immediately. Yield: 1 serving.
