Jelly BeansWhen it comes to Easter baskets, people love their jelly beans. With so many varieties, it’s hard to decide which brand makes the best fruity bean. We’ve done some hard and grueling research (trust me, it was tough), and endured a major sugar rush to figure out which jelly bean reigns supreme.

Whether you’re looking to fill your Easter basket, or serve these brightly colored candies in your candy jar, be sure to stock up on our three favorite brands:

Hawaiian Punch Jelly BeansTop Pick: Hawaiian Punch Jelly Beans

These brightly speckled jelly beans boast a true fruit flavor with a nice, easy texture and sweet candy coating. One of our judges said, “There’s more POW when it comes to the fruity flavor!”

Lemonhead Jelly BeansRunner up: Lemonhead Jelly Beans

Tart and sweet, these jelly beans have a seriously fruity aftertaste that was loved by many on our panel. Its firm consistency was also a hit with jelly bean tasters, “I like how it’s not overly chewy. And that tang is great, too.”

lifesaver jellybeansHonorable Mention: LiveSaver Jelly Beans

“This one has true jelly bean texture,” one of our judges said. With 5 classic flavors, these jelly beans reminded many of their favorite LifeSavers candy.

*Gasp!* No Starburst jelly beans?? You’re breaking my heart. I don’t think I have seen either of the two winners in my market:(

I was surprised, too! Those are my personal favorite.

Starburst jelly beans are the best! I’ve never seen Hawaiian Punch or Lemonhead jelly beans.

No naturally colored jelly beans tested?
For many of us with ADHD/Autistic children, the mentioned beans are a big no-no for the basket. Thankfully, Jelly Belly has jumped in on this, and now I can purchase a product made here in the USA, most others are imports.

Jelly Belly’s, then Jolly Rancher, the only jelly beans to eat!

Never heard of the top two!(do they sell these here in CA?) Starburst Jelly beans are the favorite at my house!

I have to wonder what brands were actually tested in this taste test. I would be interested to know what these brands won over.

seriously? did you not taste jelly belly? Those actually taste like something instead of just sugar. Widely regarded as the best jelly beans. Way better than those three up there. I am a jelly bean connoisseur and I have to say you missed the mark.

Jenny – We decided to leave the gourmet jelly beans out just for that reason. They are so good! We wanted to do more of the generic bean.

Jelly bellies are the best – a great variety of unusual flavors.

What are Hawaiian Punch Jelly Beans? Never seen them in my life! Gotta love the Lemon heads though… life savers and starbursts are my top two jelly beans!

Gail McIntyre April 23, 2011 at 12:16 pm

Brachs are the best. Straight out flavors especially the black ones.

Starburst are the tops on my list!

ARGHHH! Sarah, the Starbust Jelly Beans are BY FAR superior to the three you have listed. While I love your blog and think you are a talented and gifted writer, I think your jelly bean thoughts missed the marked.

HI Robert –
Thank you for your comments. I’d have to agree, the Starburst Jelly Beans are my favorite as well – but the masses have spoken. Maybe they’ll win next Easter!!
