A Carnival favorite, the King Cake is a staple at every Mardi Gras celebration. A rich, brioche-like bread is twisted into a ring and smothered in a thick icing and topped with purple, green, and gold sprinkles.
Traditionally a gold coin or plastic baby Jesus is hidden inside this sweet cake. The one who finds the trinket is declared the king or queen for the day and hosts the next Mardi Gras party.
If you’re planning on hosting your own Mardi Gras soire, be sure to have one of these colorful and delicious cakes on hand!

The picture looks like there’s a cinnamon filling, but it’s not mentioned in ingredients. Does the almond filling turn brown?
The almond filling is what looks like cinnamon. It has a dark, amber color to it.
