It happens every year – the food elite share their thoughts on what’s going to be hot in the food scene. From bacon to cupcakes, eating local to mom & pop restaurants, these food picks help shape what we eat and where we get our food.
I’ve done a lot of research on the different trends people are going with for 2011. I’m surprised by some of the predictions, and am curious if things like “Ethnic Breakfast Items” will really stick. But only time will tell.
In keeping with this popular tradition, I’ve decided to make this week all about food trends. We’ll discuss what’s hot, what’s not, and we’re all hoping will be the next big foodie craze.
Here are our top food trend predictions:
- Trend #1 Meatless Mondays
- Trend #2 Pie
- Trend #3 Bread Making
- Trend #4 Gourmet Hot Dogs & Brats
- Trend #5 Artisan Cheeses & Craft Beer
So tell me, what’s on your food trend list for 2011?

My current food trend is not necessarily “NEW”. For me food should always consists of great taste, and I (TRY) keeping it healthy and simple. I am now more conscious of, buying local ingredients, using the local produce and meat available to me. I have found that the quality is superior, the price is competitive and the fact that I truly know where my food is from is a nice feeling. A somehow safe feeling.I also like the fact that I personally contribute to a very small carbon footprint. The support your local farmer idea is not new, Farmer’s markets have been around forever, but local farmer’s catering to a specific chef or restaurant is something I find refreshing and profitable for everyone. Plus, the quality is so much better. I may not be able to buy everything I cook with locally, but when I can, I do.
This year I plan on getting back in to the really decadent sauces, the one’s with yes, lots of butter and creams! The idea of rich lamb or a beautiful cut of beef with a swirl of rich glistening flavor(SAUCE) oh… I LOVE IT!! Bad, I know but delicious, ahh yes…
I happen to have my own herb garden year round, yes, in the house,I expand it to the garden in the summer. Anyone who loves flavor and cooking should have one. This is not new to me, but may be for some. Very easy to do as well. 2011- EAT WELL AND GROW!
Hello, I was wondering what the recipe was for the item in the second photo at the top (between the gourmet hot dogs and the filled cookies) — it looks like a layered tortilla pie? Thank you!
