Spiced Pear Crumble

Last night, as I was strolling through the grocery store, I came across some pears.  I’m not normally a pear person – they’re a little too gritty for me – but for some reason, I bought four.

At home, I put the pears in a bowl and stared at them. I kept asking myself, why did I just buy four pears. I don’t even like pears. After a good five minutes I stopped staring at the pears and started to get things ready for dinner.

Later, my Mom called to tell me about a recipe she had just made. And guess what? It called for pears. Four medium pears. It was fate. She quickly emailed me the recipe for Spiced Pear Crumble. I looked it over. Pears, cranberries, and maple syrup … it sounded like delightful.

An hour later, my apartment was filled with the sweet aroma of vanilla, cinnamon, and pears.  I pulled the crumble out of the oven and added a giant scoop of vanilla ice cream. The first bite was heavenly – a perfect blend of sweetness and spice.

Hmm…I guess this means I’m going to have to buy pears more often.

Yummy! This looks and sounds wonderful! My twin girls love pears, but they call them “parrots”. I’ll have to try this but maybe we will call it “Parrot Crumble” instead :) . Thanks for sharing a great fall recipe!
