Nestled in the San Juan mountains, the little town of Ouray, Colorado has it made when it comes to sweet and indulgent treats.
In Ouray, Mouse’s Chocolates is a popular favorite. Specializing in decadent chocolates such as truffles, turtles, coconut clusters and more, there’s something for every chocolate lover.

Each piece of chocolate is made on site, by hand, using Callebaut Belgian Chocolate. The chocolatiers use traditional chocolate methods as they craft their unique recipes into delicious batches of sugary delight. Even the nut clusters, caramels, and toffees are handcrafted! Customers are often seen peeking through the factory windows and into Mouse’s magical chocolate world as they munch on the sweet confections.

If you’re looking for baked goods, be sure to try Mouse’s famous Scrap Cookies. Traditional cookie dough is mixed with leftover chocolate scraps then baked to perfection. “The Scrap Cookies are my absolute favorite,” one happy customer said, “You could get a nut cluster, or piece of a truffle. You never know what you’re gonna get!”

In the mood for great cup of coffee? Mouse’s has you covered. While the chocolates are the star of the business, the fresh, hand roasted coffee is another much loved staple. “The coffee roasting is my thing,” owner and head coffee roaster John Weihert said. “I learned how to do it from the previous owner and love doing it. Roasting takes a lot of patience, but the end result is totally worth it.” The Ouray Museum curator, Don Paulson, would have to agree, “It’s by far the best in town.”
A visit to Mouse’s Chocolates is a must when in Ouray. It’s the perfect place to catch up with friends or unwind after a long day of jeeping – with a piping hot cup of fresh brewed coffee, and a silky-smooth truffle. Yep, this is the life.
